Now that winter is firmly here, so is winter weather. We had this month’s storm of the century during the past week. As is the case in these recent warmer years, it featured rain rather than snow. My wife and I spent several hours absorbing water from our basement floor using old towels, which went to the washing machine for a spin, then to the dryer, to serve several more shifts. It was only after this minor crisis that I remembered that we have an old Sears shop vac, which in theory should vacuum up water. Next storm of the century – probably within the month – I’ll try it.
