Shortwave Radiogram, del 23 al 29 de Octubre 2025: programa 423

Shortwave Radiogram

Hello friends,

October 26 is the beginning of the B25 shortwave broadcast frequency season. I am not aware of any changes to Shortwave Radiogram frequencies, but keep at eye on swradiogram.net, swradiogram.bsky.social and @SWRadiogram on Twitter/X for any notifications.

Most of Europe will move back its clocks on October 26, so local times for some listeners will change after that.

If you tune in to the WINB transmissions, the MFSK32 text preview will show the program number as 325. No, that should be program 423. I will fix that mistake in the WRMI transmissions. Thanks to Roger in Germany for spotting that.

I was involved in antenna work this past week. I have a coaxial cable that exits the house, then goes underground, then emerges where our big pine tree was located until it was recently removed. The gentlemen who removed the stump managed to cut the .405-inch cable, requiring me (gulp) to install a new coaxial connector. And because the cut was near the ground, I was on hands and knees. It’s difficult for an old man to get down into that position, and even more difficult to get up.

I tried one of those compression, or clamp, style PL-259 connectors. It was relatively easy, or, for me, relatively not difficult to install. However, during the installation process, I constantly needed another unexpected tool, requiring the old man to get up, go to the basement tool cabinet, and get back on knees, several times.

The connector requires no soldering except for the tip. Of course, that did not go well, using my butane-powered soldering iron. But it went well enough that reception is once again great (by urban shortwave standards) on my bedside Drake SW8.

A video of last week’s Shortwave Radiogram (program 344) is provided by Scott in Ontario (Wednesday 1330 UTC). The audio archive is maintained by Mark in the UK. Analysis is provided by Roger in Germany.

Here is the lineup for Shortwave Radiogram, program 423, 23-29 October 2025, in MFSK modes as noted:

 1:42  MFSK32: Program preview
2:53  MFSK32: US soliciting new bids for Moon mission
6:39  MFSK64: Storms in the Midwest send smoke into stratosphere
14:21  MFSK64: This week’s images
28:09  MFSK32: Closing announcements
