Shortwave Radiogram, del 13 al 19 de Febrero 2026: programa 436

Shortwave Radiogram
Shortwave Radiogram

Hello friends,

UNESCO’s World Radio Day is February 13. The purpose of World Radio Day is to connect ideals of UNESCO somehow to radio broadcasting, which is not always a good fit, especially when considering commercial radio in the United States. The United States has an on-again-off-again relationship with UNESCO, and is not a currently a member.

For World Radio Day, the Digital Radio Mondiale Consortium has arranged several shortwave DRM transmissions on February 13. You probably don’t have a standalone receiver capable of decoding DRM, but many of the accessible KiwiSDRs can, as well as some SDR software.

On Shortwave Radiogram, we will mark World Radio Day with another excerpt of text in the Persian language, this time in MFSK32. This can demonstrate the value of radio in providing information in adverse conditions — and the communications environment of Iran (UNESCO member) is certainly difficult.

Our MFSK64 text item will be from Reporters sans frontiers (RSF), approving the bipartisan move by the US Congress to restore most funding for the Voice of America, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty and other entities of US international broadcasting. It remains to be seen if the Administration spends that money as Congress intended.

A video of last week’s Shortwave Radiogram (program 435) is provided by Scott in Ontario (Wednesday 1330 UTC). The audio archive is maintained by Mark in the UK. Analysis is provided by Roger in Germany.  See also the IQ file and other resources from H0B0_Radio in Washington state and the image archive from John in California.
