Shortwave Radiogram

Hello friends,

Last week’s test of the Olivia 32-2000 provided some successes where the MFSK32 had some or many errors. There were also instances in which the Olivia 32-2000 had a few errors. I think the Olivia 64-2000 would have been perfect in such reception conditions. We will compare modes when the Extreme Shortwave project starts in a few weeks.

The most dramatic example of the Olivia 32-2000 was during the 2300-2330 UTC transmission, 13 June, 9455 kHz from WRMI Florida, received via an SDR in the Azores. An over-the-horizon radar signal obliterated the channel. My voice introduction at 2300 was inaudible. The tones of the digital modes were barely audible. In MFSK32, not even an occasional word decoded. But the Olivia 32-2000 was near perfect. The OTH radar is visible in the waterfall …

A video of last week’s Shortwave Radiogram (program 453) is provided by Scott in Ontario (Wednesday 1330 UTC). The audio archive is maintained by Mark in the UK. Analysis is provided by Roger in Germany. See also John Rabold’s image archive.

Here is the lineup for Shortwave Radiogram, program 454, 18-25 June 2026, in MFSK modes as noted:

 1:45  MFSK32: Program preview
2:56  MFSK32: NASA mission will keep space telescope in orbit
5:31  MFSK64: Barnacle cleaning before ships leave Persian Gulf
 7:58  MFSK64: This week’s images
28:28  MFSK32: Closing announcements
