The tariff dispute between the United States and Canada, and President Trump’s executive order to rename Lake Ontario to Lake America, are now in the news. During past decades, Radio Canada International, on shortwave to the USA, would have been on top of this story, providing a perspective different than that available from domestic coverage from US media. 

Feedback from US listeners — sent to RCI by postal mail, later fax, and eventually email — would also have been broadcast by RCI.

Radio Canada International still exists, at rcinet.ca, but in much reduced form. For more comprehensive coverage, we Americans are better off going directly to CBC.ca — or to Radio-Canada.ca for French.

«Cross Country Checkup,» CBC Radio One’s audience participation program, will probably be interesting this Sunday, 2000-2200 UTC. See http://www.cbc.ca/radio/checkup and look for the Listen Live link.
